connecting stereo to philips hd tv

we have bought a philips hd tv and connected our sky,dvd and video up they all work perfectley but for some reason we cant connect the stereo to the tv like we did on our other tv,if we connect the stereo to tv the sound is ok but when you put it on sky or video it doesnt come through stereo just a buzzing sound,if you put stereo through video it works through video and sky but not tv
