Wiring a powder room

Asked Aug 26, 2009, 11:05 AM — 1 Answer
Hi,

I am adding a small powder room under the stairs in an 1890 Victorian home. I have an updated, grounded power outlet about 4 feet from the room that is on the main floor circuit.

Can I tap into the power outlet to draw power to the powder room? I will just have one light and one GFI outlet in the powder room and I do not have an available 20 amp circuit to dedicate to this small half bath.

Thanks for your help, experts!

Ryan

To conform to the letter of the National Electric code 2008 Edition, no, your plan does not comply.

Check with your local electrical inspector to get a ruling on this.
