Wall Speed control on old ceiling fan install new with pull switch

I have an old celing fan purchased in the 80's with a wall mount speed control knob. I purchased a Hampton Bay, Huntinton III 522-306 3 speed control with a pull chain. When installing the unit the fan does not work.

I have a white wire, a black wire, a blue wire for the light and a ground wire. I have a white, black and ground wire in the outlet once the old fan was disconnected. The light switch had to be turned on to operate the fan and light, and then to control the fan the on/off multiple speed dial was turned.

I now have a fan with 3 speed H/M/L and on/off pull chain.

Once wired the fan does not work.

What make was the old fan?

Are you sure there were only the three wires in the outlet box, yet two separate wall switches for the fan and light?

Sounds like it should be black-black and blue, white-white, ground-ground.

Yes, we wired it that way, however, in talking to Hampton Bay, the old speed control is a Solid state speed control which will not work with the new fan. We are goint to try to disconnect the old speed contorol and connect the fan and light directly to wall switch, and then purchase a speed control that will work with the unit.

Thanks, Bonnie King

I wasnt aware you still had the old control wired.

If you only have 3 wires in the ceiling, you wont be able to use a new speed control, you will have to use the fan's pullchain to control speeds.

What make is/was the old fan and control?
