Trying to install a harbor Breeze ceiling fan
I am trying to install a harbor Breeze ceiling fan with a remote. I have three wires coming out of the ceiling. One white, One black and a copper red wire which I believe is ground because no other green wire was hooked up directly to the junction box. The fan is controlled by two wall switches(one for light and one for fan) the third switch controls the phone power so... it sits on a three way switch on the wall. How do I hook up the remote and fan? I tried but the circuit breaker popped. I hooked up the white to white and the black to black coming from the remote. I hooked up the other end of the remote to the fan. White to white, black to black and blue to blue. I put the green wire from the casing to the red copper wire (for ground). Can you help Me? |

I need to understand your switch configurations. Let's call SW1 as Fan. SW2 as Light and SW3 as Phone. If power to SW1 and SW2 is being fed from a switch loop then I would expect a second three wire cable. Black - Red - White and bare ground. In your situation you only have one cable from in the ceiling. It should be a Black - Red - White and bare ground. I would expect the following at SW1 and SW2. Black at the top of either SW1 or SW2. Red at the top of either SW1 or SW2. Which ever switch has a black feed to the ceiling is the supply line to black on the fan. Which ever has the Red wire, will be the supply to the Light. White will probably be pigtailed. One feed to the bottom of the SW1 and SW2. White will be pigtailed to a white going to the ceiling. Connects to White on the fixture. Copper to Copper. If you don't mind, can you pull the switches and photograph them. Also take a picture of the ceiling connections for us to take a look at. |
