    thermostat wire colors
    I just removed my old mechanical thermostat. The wire colors were:

    W = white
    G = green
    R = ref
    Y = yellow
    O = Orange

    The rth230b has: W, Y, Rc, Rh, and G. I initially installed the Red in Rc, Y, W, and G. I did nothing with the O wire. When I turned the system on the thermostat started to smoke. I realized that for a 5 wire system I do not need the jumper. However, where do I place the O and R wires. I also have Blue and Black wires coming out of the wall, but they were never used. I have an electrical central a/c unit.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

    What type system do you have... Is it a heat pump... a heat pump with auxiliary heat or is it a split system air conditioning with a separate heating.?

    Well first of all, with the smoke the stat is cooked. Need to determine the purpose of the wires to determine the correct stat you need.
