Testing for amps in an outlet
What setting do I use on my multimeter to test for the number of amps available in an outlet. For example, I want to see if a kitchen plug is split with 15 amps up and 15 amps down.

    Thanks,

    Erik

Just a couple of questions, what make and model of meter do you have?

Is it rated to measure AC amps.

What do you mean by "I want to see if a kitchen plug is split with 15 amps up and 15 amps down."?

Erik, what you are wanting to do simply cannot be done. Available amperage is determined by the circuit, not by the receptacle. If you know what breaker turns off the outlet, read the number on the breaker. That is the TOTAL amperage for that circuit... meaning that everything connected to that circuit cannot total more than that number... and in most cases, 80% of that number is the maximum you should put on that circuit.
