    Hampton Bay Motor Noise
I purchased 2 Hampton Bay Indoor/Outdoor fans w/ light kit and had them installed with a standard switch in February 2006. One of them is making a loud noise and only gets louder w/ each setting. I've checked to make sure all the screws and connections are tight, but it is still making an obnoxious humming sound. Any ideas or should I try to return it to Home Depot, where purchased?

Probably easier just to return it. Either something is loose or there is a bearing issue. If you want to troubleshoot it:

I have found on occasion that one of the electrical wires to the light kit is rubbing against the spinning unit so when I took it apart and took greater care with the placement of the wires the hum disappeared. Hope this helps.

Cheap store brand. If you want a good fan don't purchase a store brand. You get what you pay for.
