replace 5 wire ceiling fan switch

I bout a harbor breeze 3 speed 5-8 wire fan switch (33906) to replace my 5 wire switch that broke.

I having trouble figuring out the wiring. On the old switch it was wired as follows:
L - Black
1 - Grey
2 - Brown
3 - Purple
4 - Orange

The new switch only has numbers L - 3. However each number has 2 slots (upper (U) slot and lower (L) slot). I tried the following wiring. L/U - Black, 1/U - Grey, 2/U - Brown, 3/U Purple, 3/L Orange. However when I turned it on I only had two speeds (really slow and really fast).

Can anyone help figure out the correct wiring for the harbor breeze #33906?

I went to Lowes with the switch and the employee said the harbor breeze should work. I'm guessing he didn't know what he was talking about.

Here is the model info for the switch I'm trying to replace: JIN YOU E70469. If anyone can let me know if the switch I have will work, and if not what one I need to replace it with. I never realized it would be so difficult to find such a simple part.
I have a ceiling fan with the same switch - Jin You E70469 - that the switch does not work. I have just changed out the light switch (old one the chain had busted off) and the new one works fine. The fan switch has six wires, two of them are hooked together to make it effectively a five wire switch. I don't know why it doesn't work - it feels like it clicks through its cycle OK, but no fan action. All I could find at Home Depot was a four-wire switch. Is there a way to make this switch work, or do I need to Sherlock out a different switch? (I'm a low grade amateur electrician, but I can follow instructions reasonably well.)
Here's what it looks like:

Thanks for any help.
