Reconnected wire to outlet of furnace hot water temperature decreased
    Hello,

We had lost power a few days ago so we hooked the wire of the furnace to an outlet to plug it into the generator. Running it on the generator it took a lot more time to warm the house and the water temperature of our showers has decreased. It was better to have any heat and hot water so we didn't complain thinking it was because we were using the generator.
After the electricity came back on we plugged the furnace to the main outlet and it still was the same decreased temperature of hot water. So thinking it had something to do with the wiring we took the outlet out and hooked it back with just the wires as it was in the beginning but still the same.
We do have hot water and heat but we need to crank the shower knob to the very hottest and still isn't hot enough and it takes forever to heat our home.

Does this have something to do with the wiring or is it just coincidence timing and we just need to replace the coil or something?

    Warm regards

A few questions. You say furnace, but you say hot water. Is it an electric boiler you have for both heating and domestic hot water? Help us understand. (descriptions of the equipment and model numbers won't hurt either.)

I'm sorry, it runs on oil and the heating is baseboards that heats with hot water.
