I ordered a new remote for my ceiling fan from Hamton Bay for my modle fan. Will I have to set the dip switches?

Hope you got one that matches your original. Open the back of the remote and observe the dip switches, little black ones. Inside your canopy is a receiver with the same bank of switches, set your new remote to exactly match the on/off settings of each dip switch in the receiver

You can give it a try, won't hurt. Otherwise you will need to drop the ceiling cover and match the DIP.

I meant to say to try the new transmitter without moving the DIP switch. If you are lucky it may work, otherwise you will need to sync both DIP's.

I agree that it won't hurt but think you chances are about 1:100 a ne one will work right out of the box.
