Instructions for Noma TM1702 outdoor timer
I purchased a Noma outdoor timer but cannot figure out how to use it. It states to set "On" time, push segment pins down to corresponding On period. Cannot figure out what the segment pins are? If someone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Plug in timer – The letter C will Flash

    TO SET CURRENT TIME:
Press Time Button – It will advance to 1 a.m.
Continue pressing until right time to the nearest hour.
(NOTE: A dot at the bottom right corner of the display indicates P.M. hours).

TO SET ON AND OFF TIMES FOR TIMER OPERATIONS:
Press Mode button – Letter P will flash inviting you to set the program
Press Time button repeatedly until required staring time appears in the window. (starting time is now displayed).
Press Mode button again – the letter E now flashes.
Press time button repeatedly until required ending time appears in the window. (Note: a dot at the bottom right corner of the display indicates P.M.hours).
Press Mode button and the display returns to the current time.

Programming is now complete. You may now plug in whatever needs to be turned on. The device will turn on and off automatically every day at the times you have just selected.

    TO REVIEW THE PROGRAM
Press time button – Displays successively, for 1-2 seconds each: P, starting hour and E, ending hour. Then returns to show the current time..

    TO CHANGE YOUR PROGRAM
Unplug the timer, which will discontinue the current program. After 10 seconds, plug it in again and proceed to set current time. Then continue with the programming steps as above.

    FOR MANUAL OVERRIDE
Pressing the Mode button at any time will turn on the devices plugged into the timer. The display will indicate the letter O. The devices will remain on until the ending time of the daily program. To return the timer to the automatic mode prior to that hour, press the Mode button again. The display will return to show the current time.

    AFTER A POWER INTERRUPTION/FAILURE
The timer will return to displaying a flashing C and the devices plugged into it will be off

The segment pins are in the gray ring underneath the timer dial just push down the sections that corespond with the time that you want whatever you have plugged in to be on at

The segment pins are the grey pins which you push down on the required start time.
It states to pull the pin up for the off time but I can not pull the pin up. Also the instructions do not really spell out the proper position for the on position or the override
Position. I find the instructions to be very confusing will probably return unit to store.

I agree, the instructions are very poor and essentially leave it up to you to figure out a) what is a segment pin? b) how to push the pins down and c) how to pull the pins up.

I eventually figured out the instructions should have explained that for a given time range that you want the timer to be active, you need to push all the pins down, and when you want the timer to be inactive, you just leave the pins in the up position.

Also, the 4th instruction tip sounds like there is another button on the timer, however reading carefully, it's talking about the device you are about to plug into the timer itself.

    Hope this helps.

I hope this helps, as it was quite frustrating at first :(

Correct: I had to play around with it to get it figured out, but you must effectively disregard the fourth part of the instructions about "Switch Unit to "ON" : that's in regards to another optional device. And No 3 states: Set manual override button to "ON" - means the toggle switch has two settings - hence toggle: Timer "ON" (left side) and Override "ON" (right side).

Great, rugged, simple effective device, just a stupid set of instructions with no illustration or diagram.

Good call Spaceboy! We tried it twice before we figured out all the grey tabs(segments) had to be pushed down for the period you want on... like 5pm to midnight.
