Hampton Bay ceiling fan light turns on and off by itself
We have had five Hampton Bay ceiling fans in our home for about 6 years, and have never had any them do anything out of the ordinary. But for the past couple of days the lights have been turning on and off by themselves, even while the remote is in clear view and nothing is touching it. And they don't all turn on at the same time, or off. But it is annoying to have the light turn on in my bedroom in the middle of the night, and very disconcerting to walk past a closed door and see a light coming from under it--and walk by moments later and it is off. Very spooky.
What could be causing this? What can we do about it?

Sounds like some other RF device has been introduced recently that is interferring. You need to change the frquency. See:

I have a Hampton Bay ceiling fan with the light kit. Whenever we have a really close lightning strike, the light (but not the fan) comes on. This has been since we have had the fan, many years. My electrician says this is normal, I say it is not. What do you think?

I have 2 of these fans and only one of them started 5-6 yrs ago doing what yours does -- both the fan and the light come on spontaneously. I even put in a new motor and new remote and same problem, but only with one of the 2 fans. I just asked someone today and he suggested changing the receiver. I really like the design of the fan and want very much to find out what's wrong & fix it.

Should be able to change the code (if you can find the user's manual).

The lightning strike is pretty common. Turning on and off is most frequently another person using your same frequency by accident IF your remote still functions when you want it. You can change the dip switches in both the receiver and transmitter to fix this. If this just started there is another fix which I used and it worked. After 3 years my fan and lights started stopping and starting on their own. I figured a neighbor just installed a fan with the same frequency. I would sit in my living room and turn my fan and lights on and off for hours know it was doing the same to my neighbor's fan. After a few days I stopped and the problem was gone, he must have change his dip switches.
