    Finishing a basement project.
I am a new homeowner and the home I bought had a basement finishing job started I want to finish. The homeowner said he didn't have a permit and I think the wiring looks great (all 12-2 romex through metal studs with the wire protectors in place 20 amp breaker 20 amp outlets 18 inches off the floor outlets gfi at first outlet 9 outlets total a switch and 2 lights )but I'm not sure its to code. I am afraid if I get a permit they will tell me to rip it all out but at the same time I'm worried if I don't get one and something happens such as a fire that the insurance won't cover it. What would anyone suggest ?

Since you want to finish the basement and the wiring seems to be completed, call your local building inspection office to ask for an inspection. You will probably need to apply for a permit before the inspector will come out. He/she can then check the installation for code compliance.

You may need a building permit to complete the construction.

You can then determine if there is any other wiring and devices needed, such as telephone, CATV, computer wiring or jacks before applying the finishes.
