I have a newer home, all wiring is up to code. The house came with 4 ceiling fans, all of which had motor noise. I replaced 3 of them and added a new 1 to another room on a new circuit. All 5 fans are Hunters. The newly added 1 has no problems and only works off of a remote, no noise at all. 1 works with a wall switch, single pole. This fan is still original to the house and has motor noise. 2 fans work off of a remote and have motor noise and the last 1 uses a fan/light dimmer switch and has noise. The noise occurs instantly when the fan is activated, in fact, I hear the noise even before the blades start moving. I don't see how this can be caused by blade/motor vibration. My electrician is stumped. I'm not replacing the fans. Logically, it does not appear to be the fan. Can someone help.

Probably they were installed without the proper vibration-isolating materials. Hunters usually come with rubber grommits that are supposed to fit between the mounting bracket and the ceiling.

Loose parts can also cause noise. Check and make sure the boxes the fans are mounting to are secure.

Thank you for your reply. I have confirmed that the rubber grommets are in place. I have also learned that the former owner of this house had performed some unlicensed electrical work. My concern is that this is an electrical demand problem. As I said, the only fan that does not make noise is the one I had a licensed electrician run a new line for. Also the fan boxes are secure. I don't know what else to do.

I dont see any way that the problem could be with the elctrical supply. TK can correct me, but the only options available in a residential home are 120vAC and 240vAC. 120 is what you want, and if the fan was being fed 240 it would burn up rather quickly. I think it's more likely the way the fan is mounted. But if you're concerned you can always get a voltmeter and measure.
