    NEC Article 220 presents the information needed for residential feeders, branch circuits, and service calculations.

    To figure out the service or feeder size for dwellings (standard Method)***See NEC 220:
    1. General lighting load 3VA per sq feet, one laundry circuit, and 2 small appliance circuits
    2. Heat vs A/C **See NEC 220.60 and 220.51
    3. Dryer **See Nec 220.54
    4. Appliances **See NEC 220.53
    5. Cooking Appliances **See NEC 220.55
    6. Now size your service and feeder conductor: If the amps are 400 or less, and there is a 3 wire single phase 120/240v system, then size using Table 310.15(B)(6) If over 400 amps, then size per Table 310.16.

    There is a lot more that goes into a demand Load calculation, and maybe someone will post a site that will help you along the way.
