Dryer is using a Range Cord.
    Hi,
I just moved into a new place. I noticed that the dryer cord is actually a range cord because the outlet is for a range (three slots) instead of a dryer outlet.

My question is, is it okay to use a range cord on the dryer, or should I have the outlet changed to a dryer outlet with the correct slots?

Both ranges and dryers could have either 3 or 4 hole receptacles. Depends on the application and age of the circuit.

So it's okay then to have what is labeled as a range cord (50 amp) and connect that cord to a dryer (30amp)?

Well that's different. I thought you were saying you thought it was a range cord because it was 3-prong.

Actually it is not dangerous to be on the range circuit. If you would feel better about it you certainly could change the breaker, receptacle and cord.
