What’s the proper way to install crimp connectors? Not butt splice connectors, I have used those many times. These connectors (made by GardnerBender) are plain metal and look like short pieces of tube. The instructions are confusing: insert wires, twist together then crimp. Are both wires inserted in one end then twisted? Or, insert one wire in each end then twist? It also calls for a GB crimping tool. Will my current crimper, useable on both insulated and non-insulated butt connectors, work on this application? I need to splice a short run of well pump wire (the run from the house to the well head), which is in a length of PVC. Therefore, I don’t have room for wire nuts and need to keep the splice straight. My first choice was the butt splices but these metal connectors appear stronger.

Most crimps, esp the barrel type you have, need the wires twisted first, then slide the crimp into place ,and crimp with the proper tool.

UL has in the last few years require that all crimping be done with a tool that has two indenting dimples. Your tool is probably the older version .

The actual crimp you use must be rated for direct burial, and I do not belive the barrel crimps you want to use are rated as such. you may want to look at using somethng simialr to the second product I offered.
