I have some christmas lights that I have out front on the lawn there are about 1500 lights total and plug into one big cord that comes up to the porch and I plug into the outlet up there, every time I plug them in at night it blows the outlet where you have to press it back in. During the day when I am working on the lights they come on and stay but lately at night they blow. The humidity around here keeps everything damp but it is the same in the day. Some of the lights touch the grass and I have tried to put them up where they are straight and not touching the grass. Please help

Do any of the lights in your house go off when this happens at night?

There is a ground fault, the impedance may be lower at night due to temperature, or more likely, the plastic is contracting, to expose a fault area.

Unplug all the strings. Reset the outlet, and begin plugging one in at a time, until one trips the GFI outlet, and replace that one string, or any others that trip.

The only reason I asked my Q TK, is that I have this problem in the summer with our pool. If there are other lights, or electronics on that breaker that are being used (I thought of this because she says "at night") she may have too much power running into that particular breaker.

I ain't no electrician, heck, I'm a nurse... but this sounded familiar since I have a similar problem in the summer.

Thanks for answering, no none of the lights go out anywhere but the lights I am trying to plug in.
