    Changing circuit breaker for dryer
    I have built a new laundry room in our basement and will be moving the appliances down shortly from the main floor room. I put in a new dryer electrical outlet and ran the appropriate wire to the circuit panel, but was wondering how difficult is it to now remove the wires from the current dryer circuit breaker and replace it with the wires for the new outlet? Or is this strictly a "call the guy" scenario? I have verified the wiring is the same but those panels can look a bit intimidating. Either way even having the knowledge of what occurs would be helpful.

    If you can shut off the main breaker that feeds the panel, you can insure that there are no live parts in the panel to switch the wires on the breaker.

    If you leave the panel live, there are many exposed terminals bus bar, lugs that you must be careful working near. Only someone knowledgeable and trained to work in live panels should do so, as the danger is great for injury.

    Nowadays, due to OSHA and NFPA 70 E ,even qualified electricans must wear the appropriate personal protective gear to work in live panles, due to the shock and arc flash hazards. This means the worker must wear voltage rated insulated gloves, arc rated flash face shield, and non-flammable clothing.

    Remember that even when the main breaker is off the main power coming into the panel is hot- with no way of shutting off the power.
