Ceiling Fan Burned Out and Strong Odor
My ceiling fan stopped working tonight and there is a very strong odor in my bedroom. I am concerned about fire safety or my family. Can this be dangerous. I turned the switches off and got everyone out of that room but am still worried. It isn't a burning fire smell and there is no smoke just a strong odor that is hard to explain. Please help I am worried!!

Were their a lot of sparks when it blew out? If so, what you are smelling may be ozone. In small amounts it is harmless. It wouldn't hurt to air the house out a little, but I don't think there is any danger. Such questions are best posted in the public forum.

I bet the capacitor melted. This happens all the time. Open the bottom of the fan and look for a small black box with wires coming out. These are cheap and easy to replace, nothing is wrong with the fan.
