    110 v outlet off a 220 while maintaining 220v for a water pump
I have a 10-2 with ground 220 line to a water pump with no access to a 110 circuit. I need to install a 110 circuit to run a lights in the pumphouse. Can I do this by using a 1 hot lead and the ground wire as neutral to get the 110 power and then pound a ground stake in and connect the 110 ground wire to it? My purpose is to operate one light by a switch and the other(100-150 W) on a thermostat to provide some heat on nights when the temp drops into the 20's.

    Thanks, Dale

    Nope.

But I'll give you two other ideas.

    1) Step down transformer (240-120)
    2) Wire two 120 Volt lamps in series
    3) Fluorescent lighting with a 220 ballast.. 277 is used a lot in commercial lighting and the ballasts may be able to use 240.

Just remember to use a dialectric grease or Vaselene on the pins or threads.

How much power do you need? What kind of lighting were you thinking about?

Looks like it didn't read it enough. I guess option#3 is out. #1 and #2 are viable.
