    Wire a 3phase welder with 1phase power ?
Have heard this can be done but wanted to get some help. Have a three phase welder and wondered if I can directly wire a single phase line to it? I realize I would loose 66% of the out put which is fine but just wanted to know if it can be done. If so were do I put the single phase lines to? There is a hookup for L1 L2 L3 so where do the single phase lines go?
    Thanks tom

    You plan will not work.

The irresponsible answer would be to try it and let us know how it worked.

I for one, as for many professionals, knowing things like this will not work, quite frankly, never tried it and therefore do not know what the ultimate result will be.

You will need to use a three phase converter, of which there are several styles available, and a great deal of info found on the web:

    SINGLE to 3 PHASE CONVERTER

3 Phase Converter Info- Sales- rotary phase converter, static 3 phase rotary converters.

    Tom,

Yes this can be done, but not without the use of extra equipment. What you need is a rotary type phase converter. This will allow you to input your two-wire single phase input, and get a three-wire three phase output that you can then run the machine off single phase. I would recommend using an ACE Phase Converter to run your machine. They output nice clean power to run your machine.
