Won't eat or drink breathing heavy

Asked Feb 7, 2012, 07:55 PM — 4 Answers
My German Shepard has always been skinny and I recently added satin balls to her diet of high protein and high fat dog food. She was gaining weight well. For the last 5 days she hardly eats anything which is not unusual for her, she takes spells like that. Now she isn't drinking and is breathing heavy. She has lost a lot of weight and can't stand without falling down. I an taking her to the vet in the morning but the usual answer they give me for everything is worms. The other 2 dogs are always fine though. Any ideas what I should have them check other that anemia, blood sugar, and dehydration?

It stands to reason that 3 dogs sharing the same quarters would all have worms if 1 had them. If the only answer you get from your vet is worms without other diagnostics and testing then it may be time to find another vet.

Her normal vet had done blood and urine test before that came back fine. I took her to my large animal vet instead of her usual one. Vet did a worm check on one of the other dogs and came back clean. Since she had not been eating he couldn't get a fecal on her. He drew blood work and found pancreatic cancer. She passed away this morning. Thank you for your help.
