Why won't my dog look at my new puppy
I got a new puppy. A male pembroke welsh corgi. My other dog, al male, but neutered Australian Cattle Dog, does not like him. My acd will bark and growl at the puppy if it is near him, but once the pupy goes about five feet from him, he will stop barking/growling and look away and completely ignore him. I have not yet let them sniff each other, because I am afraid my acd will bite the puppy. I have let them see each other through glass seperators and I have put them in different crates and left them next to each other though. When I do that (put the crates close about ten feet from each other), my ACD will not look at the puppy. He turns his back away from him, and just sits there. His ears are flat on his head too. I decided to just socialize them little by little by gradually moving the crates closer and closer together as the days pass, so they can get used to each other. Is this a good thing to do? What more can I do to get them to like each other? Thanks

How did you first introduce them?
    Was it in your home?

It's best to take both dogs somewhere like your frontyard or even someone else's house to meet for the first time, that way your ACD won't feel like he is having his territory threatened and can get to know the pup before it enters "his" home.

For now I would suggest trying this, or getting a babygate to install somewhere so your ACD can come up to the gate when he pleases to see the pup, not have the pup coming up to him

OMG I'm going through the same with my German shepherd collie cross, I brought my Staffordshire bull terrier home, we let the German shepherd sniff the staffie and she pinned him to the floor bless him, I feel so bad now but we've got to see what she would do if we left them alone, we now take him every where with us due to the fear we'll return to a dead puppy :(, we got a dog so that our wouldn't get territorial but it seems to have not work, we've got a lady girl coming today, and hopefully she'll help us, has your ACD accepted you corgi? If yes how did you get this to happen? Ty gemma

gemmagoldup, If you would like advice that is specific to your problem, please ask in your own thread. Since the op hasn't been back after posting, she/he may not see your question.

IF you do ask your own question, please provide the ages of the animals involved, how long you have had them and what you have tried so far.

    Thank you.
