"Chip" is my 2.5 year old Lhasa Apso. He has a almost 2y old brother named "Dale".
Dale doesn't eat chips food. I dont think they have really established who is alfa yet. I see traits in both of them. They are also buddies. They play well together. They have been together for 1.5 years. So why has Chip developed his poor eating habit of wolfing down his food without taisting it? He does it more when I give them treats.I think it is rude and its driving me crazy! I also feel sorry for him. Why is he doing this? and can I break him of it? thanks for your help~~

The rapid eating goes back to the days of the wolves where the faster you ate, the more you got. It is a very common problem with Labs. I don't think there is much you can do about the treats. There are 2 ways slow down eating meals. You can spread the food out on a cookie sheet or something. Several of my friends just throw it on the floor of the crate. The other way is to put a few large rocks in the food dish. Either way keeps the dog from grabbing one large mouthful after another.

You do need to remember he is a dog, not a little person in a fur coat.

I second Labmans opinion, but just wanted to add that insted of rocks you can also use a tennis ball and it also seems to do the trick because it makes them have to work around it.

Be very careful of dogs and tennis balls. I allow my dogs to have tennis balls, but only under careful supervision. Some of them don't last a whole evening.

The pet stores are full of toys that many dogs will quickly chew up into
pieces they could choke on or cause intestinal blockages. If you are not
there to watch, stick to sturdy stuff such as Nylabones and Kongs. Keep a
close eye on chew toys and quickly discard anything that is coming apart in
pieces. Rawhide is especially bad because it swells after being swallowed.
These problems are the worst with, but not limited to, large, aggressive
chewers such as Labs.
