Where do you start potty training a puppy
    Hi,

I will be a first time owner of a puppy, Yorkie. I have done some research on this breed, so I am familiar with it. But, I have never owned a puppy, and I have read so many ways of housetraining. Where do I start? Advice needed. THANKS

There are many ways to potty train a puppy. First off is this like a litter box kind of thing? Or out side potty training. Mostly it takes time. You have to be stern with the puppy and when it pees show it what it has done and put the puppy outside. With my dog I used to tell him to go pee and eventually he got what I meant and when I let him out I told him that command and he now goes pee. Lol it's quite funny.

There is a lot of poor advice about housebreaking around. I also see many questions from people that are having trouble. I was fortunate to be given good advice from highly experienced people in 1991. It worked then, and with each new puppy every year since. I know many other people using the same method, and it works fro them. There are several important things, but above all, you need to pay attention to the puppy. They aren't ''accidents'', but ''neglects''.

My housebreaking method along with some other valuable information are in stickies at the top of the dog forum. Just click on Dogs at the top of this page.
