Update on Dexter, (and his potty issues) :)
    Hi all,
I wanted to first say thank you to Labman and Ruby for answering my questions about why Dex might be peeing inside, (even if he just went potty outside). I have a health issue that between a new puppy and it, the computer was not on my list of "to Do's". Ruby, I don't want you to think that I am limiting his water to almost nothing, it just seems that he could literally stay at the water bowl for the whole day. I would let him drink for a reasonable time, then pick it up. During the evening, the water would be picked up at 7pm because we go to bed at 9pm. When he saw the Vet last week, the vet gave him a really good going over, (it was his first visit to our Vet since he came home). The Vet said that some puppies just drink more than others, and to watch his nose moisture, if it starts to stay dry ALL the time to call him, because he would then do some tests to see if his blood sugars are okay.
However, now the GREAT NEWS, for my birthday, Dexter gave me the BEST gift of all. He responded to "go potty" for the entire day and night! He knows the command now, and all I have to do, is see him look "worried" , by the door, and when he goes out, he goes on his own, without a leash, and without me having to be next to him. Just a simple "go potty Dexter", and he goes! No mishaps inside for three days!! Way to go Pup!
I also wanted you to know that Dexter will be fixed, as soon as those little guys drop enough for the Vet to tell me, "it's time to neuter him". I know enough from past dogs, to know that, a better behaved, and healthier dog, is a result of spaying and neutering, (plus no unwanted or unplanned pregnancies). Only one of my dogs was not fixed, because we got him when he was four, and was told that it was more harmful, (I know better now, that this is not true). The non neutering of him eventually brought him to his demise later in his life. He always found a way to sneak out when he got whiff of a female in heat. He got hit by a car, when he snuck out behind me when taking out the trash. Being that he was a small dog, I didn't even know he had gotten out. This broke my heart when they could not help him, because of the damage from the mini van. Folks, take the advice out there , SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS. Both lives will be better served to each other with just a simple procedure.
    Thanks everybody for the help!

Thanks for the update. I try to warn people not to take any chances when their female is in heat. I also use the term berserk for intact males when a female is in season upwind. Getting loose and getting killed is a very real hazard for both.

Congratulations! He is a smart little guy making the connection as quickly as he did! He might backslide a bit, and that is very normal. Keep up the good work! Thank you for updating us. I am so sorry about your other dog and I am glad to see that you are planning on neutering this one when the time comes.

Update: Nine month dachshund still has potty problems. [ 1 Answers ]

After taking her to the vet to talk about why she pees in her crate, he put her on antibiotics in case of a bladder infection and suggested I take out all her bedding, so urinating would be less tolerable for her. So for a little more than two weeks she was on medication and had no bedding, and...
