Stubborn dog

Does anyone have any tips or tricks on how to teach my dog to jump into the back of my Excursion? He is only a year and a half so he is definately capable but he won't do it. I've tried treats and lots of encouragement but he won't even try. He can jump out with no problem. Any suggestions?

He is probably afraid of the jump. Our last lab was really timid. Took us a year and a half to teach him to swim. Another year to get him to jump on the bed, and he would jump off as soon as he could. It takes patience to get a dog to do things when they are afraid. Be sure it is well lit when you load him is about all i can suggest. Have you tried putting him on the floor in the front passengers seat? That was where our dog preferred to ride if he could.
