I would call your vet first thing in the morning and keep an eye on him tonight, if he gets worse bring him to your local all night vet. I wouldn't fool around with something like blood in their stool. Good luck!

There are many possibilities that could cause this, some very serious and deadly. Are there any other symptoms? Is your dog vomiting or lethargic? How old is this puppy? When was it last wormed? Hookworms are one of the things that could cause this. I understand you may have trouble getting to a vet today or tomorrow but I highly suggest going ASAP. With dangerous illnesses time can be of the essence.

charliepig59, I know you are brand new here, so I'll just give you a tip so you can better understand how this works so you can get answers to your particular question. Right now you are asking a question on someone else's thread. So, go to the top and click on "dogs". Then click on Ask Question. That will start your own thread. You will get more answers that way. To answer your question, have you changed the food that he was being fed before you got him? That is often the problem. Just keep an eye on him for any changes in his poop, and his behaviour. If he starts being lethargic or has any other behavioural problems, then it is time to take him to the vet if the runny poop continues.

Now, to the OP! There could be a lot of reasons for blood in his poop. Again, have you changed his food from one to another? If you have, this is not a good idea. When you change a dogs food, you should do it gradually, mixing it with his old food to begin with, and then slowly adding the new food. This "sometimes" causes a bit of blood in their stools. With that said, if that isn't the case, and he still has bloody stools, you need to get him to the vet ASAP! There could be a very serious reason for this, and if caught early it could be diagnosed and treated. Keep a careful eye on him.
