My poor puppy

I never owned a dog before and just bought a Bichon Frise. It has been a rough start. The lady that sold him said he had no prior problems. I bought him at 5 months old, only been 6 weeks since I've had him. I have this rash and it looks like little bites. OR it could be an allergic reaction. The itch is all all my arms and upper chest and neck area. I went to the doctor and they said it is an allergy? My dog also has this skin itchy problem. All of his fur is falling out and 4 days after I got him he got these cuts/scrapes that turned into smelly quarter size scabs. The vet was also shocked to see this and gave him an ointment that pretty much healed it quickly. More in different areas occured and the vet gave me some antibiotics. I am sooo confused and have searched endlessly on the web for information. He also sleep all through the night and alot during the days. He drinks maybe 8 oz of water at most and only a cup of Inova dog food. If this sounds familiar, please help me. It has been only 6weeks and my poor dog is suffering. Been to the vet twice and no answers but "allergies".

Your question is a little puzzling. The Bichon Frise is noted as one of the dogs with little of the dander that causes most of the allergies in people. I have had some problems with my puppies getting bite like things on their underside, and my vet said it was due to the immune system not kicking in. Perhaps both you and your puppy need a second opinion.

Has your vet done a skin scrape? What is the protein (meat) base of the Innova? The patches of smelly skin could be staph plaques, ringworm, either mange, or allergies. In you knowing that Bichon's are "Hypo-allergetic" it could be fleas, mange mites, or allergies. Does an antihistamine help either one of you?
