My new puppy won't eat!

Hi. A few days ago, we got a puppy from the humane society about 100 miles from where we live. He is part Great Pyreneese, Saint Bernard, and is 3 months old. ( So they said ) He was nuetered the morning we got him. They told me he had all of his shots too. Well, I brought him home, and he has only ate for me a few times. Took him to the vet the other day and they done some test. Drawed blood, took a stool sample, and gave him a shot with 3 different antibiotics in it. My vet told me to watch over him because he is sick and is 10 pounds under weight. I have tried everything to make him eat. He is ok when he is outside, but inside he is all depressed. He acts hungry, but turns his nose up at food.

I was wondering if anyone has some advice for me? If he don't get any better soon, I will have no choice but to take him back where I got him.

As a nurse for 10 years, I thought I was doing pretty good at saving lives. But I need some help with this puppy.

Thank you,
Kerry

I am not sure it is time to panic yet. Shelters are very traumatic places for dogs. Health problems added to the stress of the shelter and then a new home could be too much for him. Since he has eaten some for you, continue to offer more of whatever he ate. If he doesn't eat tomorrow, check back with the vet on Monday. With him already being under weight, there is more urgency to the eating than in most cases.

I thank you for adopting him. He must be a very appealing dog for you to take an under weight dog with health problems. I hope it works out well after this rough start.

Post back tomorrow. If he isn't eating, I may offer some more suggestions.
