Maltese dog sick

I have a maltese dog about 1 year and 6 months old. She has been vomiting, clear white foamy-ness and her poop is kind of "Snotty" looking, she refuses to go outside and she has been mopey and not really wanting to play lately. I have taken her to the vet, and the vet said that she probably just scratched her throat and he gave her a shot of steroids and antibiotics and also sent her home with some pills but it doesn't seem to be working. I told the vet all of the symptoms and everything. I just don't know what to do. Please help!

I would personaly ask the Vet if he has heard of colitis, coccidia or giardia b4, then again thats just me. If he doesnt know what they are, ask him what sucralfate, metronidazole, and metoclopramide are used for. Ususally after the light comes on in the sleepy Vets head like mine, the dog gets better soon after, I have had days like that b4.

Spec - I have a baby Maltese too ( well, my baby is 8 years old, but the are forever babies)

DocWill - Could the dog have eaten something? Should the vet have did a CBC to check the dogs levels? I would think the Complete Blood Count would help the doc get a better picture.

Spec - What were the instructions about food and water? It could just be me, but that Vet, at least to me, didn't sound like he did too thorough of a job. But again, that is just me.

Hope your little girl gets better soon.

allheart this is so common and basic it really doesnt need a cbc unless she wants to spend money. I have no idea why he sent home steriods, mind you I am basing off the info supplyed.

Thanks Doc Will. I just couldn't remember. The sterroids concerned me too. But I just love animals and know how to love them, and ask lots of questions.

I sure hope this little girl gets better soon.

Thanks for answering my question Doc.
