does anyone know of or have a male
dane in arizona that would be interested in breeding.

i found a lady in iowa, but it's sooo far.
we also tried a lady in tucson and my girl rejected him 2 heats ago.
i already know why, so i don't need advice on that, i just need a nice male.

and a puppy trade would be nice, instead of a fee.
anyone interested?

she just started her heat this morning, i know because i have
watched VERY closely since her last cycle.
that gives me a few days to find someone and give it a try.

contact me and we'll discuss the particulars.
if i don't get her bred this cycle, next cycle is the last and she is getting spayed.
i won't risk her health beyond that.

however, great dane breeding advice, not how to's, are welcome.

Tempe, Tuscon, Phoenix...all have breeders listed that stud.
I assume your girl is registered with the AKC?
If not, there is no reputable breeder that would be interested.
Also, even if she is registered, it does not guarantee that she is of the 'type' that is desired for breeding.

I am of the camp that does not advocate breeding just for the sake of breeding, when there are plenty of dogs without homes already.

I really wonder if at this point you have the time to do the serious checking on any male you find now. Breeding dogs need to be taken seriously and only with great care to insure quality offspring. Do you have x-rays etc. on her?

i have not bred great danes in the past....
so she would be my first, and probably only try.
all i want is to take a shot at passing her amazing personality,
disposition and beauty to a few good pups.
i would like to have one (or five) of her pups, and i have plenty of
wonderful people that would love one of her pups, without worrying about
where they end up. and if it doesn't happen, i don't have to do it.
it's not like i do this for money.

and i've been through countless dane rescue sites, and i am sad to say
that a rescue dane is probably not for me.
they come with serious health issues and dispositional issues.
and they usually only will be placed in a family that meets a certain criteria..
like no kids, no cats, no men, no other dogs....
and we don't fit that criteria..
with children and another dog, i really don't think it would be fair to the
new pet to bring a "scarred" animal -whether emotional or physical-home anyway.


i am serious about finding a good male, so serious that i've been looking
for a male since she was 2 & a half years old, and have not found one that
i am comfortable with.
and i refuse to breed her after she's 5. she just turned 4 and if i don't get a male
that is "compatible" then what's it going to matter?
i'm going to just have her spayed. that's about 8 or 10 less pups in the world right?


so i appreciate your advice, but it's not anything i have not already considered.
and i am not in this for sport or money.

i am simply looking for a good male with owners interested in breeding to my female.
and i'll work out the rest with the owners if they wish to contact me.
and if anyone with experience with GREAT DANE BREEDING has some tips
for whelping dane pups, i would definitely be interested in their advice so
that if i ever am having dane pups, i have something else to reflect on.

oh, and i have the forms to get her registered...
all it takes is a check and an envelope...

besides, i've seen so many puppies of all kinds, not just danes...
and registered puppies from breeders are not always
guaranteed to be "quality"...
half the time they have just as many if not more health & personality
problems than if they were from a family whose 2 danes got together
and had surprise puppies.

so i'm not terribly frigid about papers as long as some sort of
health or lineage background can be proven.
even a bill of health from a good vet.
i'm not just going to stick her with any dog off the corner and
call them pure bred pups, and then sell them to anybody with
the right amount of money that comes along.

i'd keep every one if i had to, just to be sure they are cared for properly.

i'd like to think that the fact that i've searched for 2 years for
a good male, tells me i have a bit of sense and enough brains
to be smart about what i'm considering.

That's why I suggested the GDCA. I think if nothing else, you can find other Dane people in your area through them and network from there.

I don't want to lecture or sound like I'm being uppity about this, but I really think that breeding for the sake of 'passing on genes' is ineffective and often disappointing.

Labman has a valid point about the hip thing that you should really consider. Don't breed your baby to just any animal. Make sure the stud is of sound quality (and of course your girl is also) or you risk creating dogs that suffer a lifetime of pain and surgeries.

As far as the rescue thing not being an option, I totally understand where you're coming from on the 'scarred' animal issue. But keep in mind that lots of dogs are given up simply because owners can no longer deal with the responsibility of a dog so large. Not all rescued Danes (or any breed) are behavioral nightmares.

You seem like you truly have your dog's best interest at heart and have a real love for the breed.

Oh, it's a lot more than that...
Any purebred whose parents are registered by the AKC can also be registered...that DOESN'T mean that they are fit to be bred.


You should be if you are interested in being able to register the puppies.


I didn't mean to imply otherwise and I'm not wishing to offend you. But you asked a question that I felt qualified to answer and did so hoping to help you make a good decision, that's all.

i am contacting a breeder currently an am waiting for a response.

like i said before, if it doesn't happen,
i'm at no loss.

as far as health is concerned, i have not had x-rays done of her hips.
and i would do that if the other party thought it were an issue.
i intend to do it in the very near future just for her own health anyway.

we made sure that ALL possible precautions were taken when she was a pup
to prevent any health problems in her old age.
honestly, the only "health issue" she has ever had in 4 years, is that she had
a skin allergy about 1 month after we got her.
the vet treated her and i changed the detergent i washed her bedding in and it went away.
went back to the old detergent and it came back...
so we determined that she is allergic to Tide.
which to me is not a surprise because i have known many people who are allergic to Tide.

so besides that, we've had a good long running bill of wondeful health.
and every time we go for a check-up, usually 1 time a year at least,
she gets high praises on how healthy and beautiful she is.


i am looking not just for beautiful puppies, but personality, and above
all else, healthy pups..and that is definitely all passed on from parents.


so, that's about it i suppose.
i take it very seriously. and if we have no luck, then we just have her.
she's been wonderful so far, and i have no doubt that she will continue to be.
