Large Knot on German Shepherd's Shoulder
Hi. I have an 8 year old German Shepherd that I have noticed a grapefruit sized lump on her left shoulder blade. I called the vet yesterday evening when I found it and I have to take her Monday morning. She has been my baby since I got her. She is like one of my kids. My grandmother used to work for a vet and seems to think it may be cancer. It is like stuck on her bone right behind her shoulderblade. It is very hard and not movable. I do not know what they are going to do. Any suggestions of what they may do? I appreciate all of your help and concern. Thanks.

It could be a fatty tumor. But since you said it is not moving I would get it evaluated with an aspiration

Well, I took her to the vet and they said that all the signs and symptoms led to malignant. Ugh. He said that as fast as it grew and just popped up there and with her being as old as she is and the tumor was so hard and immovable and that it was stuck to the bone that all things said cancer. She is to go into surgery sometime today to see if it can be removed. He doesn't know if he will be able to get it all or not. I just hope and pray that he can. This dog is like my baby. She was my first dog. I now have 4 but she is my big baby. I do not know what the outcome of the surgery will be, but I will keep you posted. What is usually the life expectansy of a dog if this is cancer? Does anyone know? Anyone been in this situation before? I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks and have a Blessed Day!

Thanks. They were not able to take it off because it was just too big and the vet said that you have to remove the bone above it and there is no bone above it cause it is on the shoulder blade already. She is to come home in the morning. He told me that I was going to feed her and love her just the same no matter what. He said that it is just a wait and see how things go game. I will keep you informed on our progress. Thanks again for the prayers and support. That is how I make it through the day. Syd and samantha

I'm sorry I missed your post at first. Here is a link to something that may help. My sisters dog had cancer, and he lived 3 yrs. Longer than they thought, after being diagnosed with cancer. He lived until the age of 16. She told me about this product, and she swears by it. It's a little expensive, but I can tell how much you love your fur babe. Hope it's of some help to you and your baby.

Also, I have heard about Goji juice having great success with cancer in dogs. There are different kinds, because there are many different varieties of Goji berries. I'm not advertising for them at all. This is just the one that I've found that has done the best research, and narrowed it down to one particular berry. It is often used in human cancer as well, and is very helpful if chemo is necessary. It has been tested as safe for dogs.
