    How sick is my puppy?
Hi everyone. I'm sitting here on the couch by my puppy who hasn't been feeling good the second half of the day. I can't wait till tomorrow and searching for answers online. My 5 months old puppy is usually very active but right now he is not at all. We had a walk, it's relatively hot outside, than he drank a lot of water. Afterwards he would lay down and try to fall asleep but something seemed to scare him to close his eyes. When he walks one can see he is very week. Now heis sleeping, his nose is very warm, I checked his gums, they are OK. Please, all I need to know is will he be OK tomorrow. Thank you!!

Mabye he drank too much water and got overheated? I think he would be OK in the morning. But I'm just guessing,I'm not a vet lol. When my dog runs around outside she gets really hot and drinks lots of water and pretty much just passes out on the couch afterward.

We can't give you a diagnosis, only guesses, but it sounds like heat stroke to me.

You need to get him to a vet.

What breed of dog is it?

A large amount of water after exercise can often cause bloat... if you haven't taken your dog to the vet already then I will pray it is not that.

A lot of water, or food, even after exercise can cause bloat. I've done a lot of reading about it because we have a great dane and I know they are very susceptible to bloat.

Dogs have trouble staying cool on very hot days. Your puppy maybe overdid it and got heat stroke. I think that is more likely than bloat in this case, although it is wise to take precautions either way. Keep him cool and don't let him exercise until he is better. Having fluids available will help. Bloat will usually cause some pretty powerful pain, while heat stroke just makes you feel like lying down and dying. If gently probing his belly does not provoke a pain response, that is a good sign. If it were my dog, I would call the vet's and ask for advice. They probably see a lot of heat stroke, and can give advice on the best course of action.

Thank you so much everyone! My puppy is feeling better today. My husband says that he probably ate smth wrong but he didn't vomit or anything. I think he was overheated though we used to walk in a hotter weather before. I hope this will never happen again. God, they really become your family members, worry about them as if they are your kids. Thank you!

    I'm glad he's okay.

When we walk our dogs I always carry a water bottle along. Especially on a long walk on a hot day.

A sip of water or a bit of a douse helps to keep them cool.

Dogs can't sweat. It's hard for them to release the heat.

    Just a good tip. :)

    Pictures? ;)

Good to hear he is feeling better.

Alty suggestion is good with dousing them with a bit of water.
We use cold wet towels and rub up under their belly and the inside of their legs to cool them off.

Well, it jusy doesn't work, the attacments don't react on my clicking on them for some reason. I also can't look at other pictures in this forum/ Probably it's some program incompatibility with my computer?

Possibly, a lot of computers have a blocker on them.
Unfortunately I don't know how to remove it so you can see pictures sorry :(

You could try going to a site like ImageShack® - Image Hosting uploading your pic and then posting the address on here.
