I have a mini dashhound that has been in active heat for the last 7 days, I had a male here last Sat through Mon, they joined around 4 times that I know about. The problem today she became joined with a Scottish Terrier, I wasn't there to stop this. Will she have Scotties and Doxies and will this hurt her in delivery? I have never bred dogs before.

I don't understand why if you don't know what you are doing you are in the dog breeding business. Why would you allow another dog to have access to her if your intention is to breed Dachshunds, which I assume you mean. She was obviously still receptive to the male.

At any rate - no, whichever dog is the father is not going to make delivery more difficult, if that is your question.

And now I'll step back and let more knowledgeable people, hopefully people who are not involved in animal rescue and don't have the same view of this that I do, give you advice.

If you were pregnant and slept with two men around the same time, would both of them be the fathers? Why did you let this happen period? I'm sorry, I really have to try and contain myself right now! You are likely to be angry with me, but I am only going to state the truth. You had no business in letting your dog be in contact with any other males when she was in heat. You haven't a clue what you are doing! You haven't done your research, and could likely put your dog and her pups in a risky situation, as there are often problems that arise when giving birth. Especially when there are mixed breeds involved, which obviously there are!

You stated you know nothing about breeding dogs, and you obviously do not even know the basics. It was very negligent of you to not spay your dog, without any breeding or birthing knowledge. What would you do if a puppy was born breach? What do you do if other problems arise during birth? What do you do if a pup is born and is non-responsive? How do you care for your dog before, during, and after giving birth? What care do you need to give the puppies? Do you know about whelping? I could go on, but do you know any of these answers? My guess is that you do not.

Do you know that for every litter of puppies from inexperienced backyard breeders, how many other dogs will have to die because you carelessly bred your dog? At least 40 died while I'm answering your question.

Take your dog to the vet to determine if she pregnant, and get some advice from your vet, and then sit down and do some research and inform yourself. Do you know that there is a large expense involved in breeding your dog and taking care of her pups when and if you find them a good home? They will need to have a their first shots and a check-up, and any other problems that may arise. This is not cheap! But, you took on that responsibility when you casually let your female to have contact with a male during her heat cycle.

Do the responsible thing and educate yourself! And for God sakes, if you love your dog, you will get her spayed after her litter is born!

I'm sure you'll come up with all sorts of reasons for doing this; I want to witness the miracle of birth, I was told each dog should have a litter, puppies are so cute, I love the breed, etc, etc, etc, I've heard it all! The bottom line, you don't know what you're doing, and you shouldn't be doing it.

Who do you think will suffer? Not you, but your dog and the puppies that she may be carrying. You didn't bother to do your research, to ask experienced breeders how to do this, to get genetic testing done on both your dog and the male. Breeding is expensive, and not something you just do.

It's too late now, chances are your dog is pregnant, you can only hope that she and the puppies will survive this. You now have to do the research you didn't bother to do beforehand, and I sincerely hope that after this litter, or, if she's not pregnant then now, you will have her spayed.

This is getting old, and I can't believe the number of people coming here expecting us to advise them on something they shouldn't be doing in the first place.

Hey you people need to give it a rest at least this person asked for help. All you are is a freaking jerk. C'mon now just because he doesn't have any experience doesn't exactly give you the right to talk to him in such a cruel manner. If your so worried about dogs being in danger then why don't you talk to this person with some respect. I'm pretty sure they came to this site because they needed help.

You know if you really want to get on to someone why don't you go protest at some place where they breed animals, so ONLY YOU YES YOU can eat their meat. That's an epedimic too but yet we still eat meat. OR what about the chickens they keep in 14" X 14" cages that lay egg after egg until they can't walk anymore and when you move them they fall to pieces. THen guess what happens, there bones and flesh go into making processed meat that you eat at Mc Donalds and into Chicken Noodle Soup. That's not even the half of it what about the poor cows that they put in trucks and drive them 40+ hours and then dropped off to a place where they stay for 2 weeks eating and such thinking everythings OK and then one day there lured into a barn where there KILLED and there meat is sold to a glutinous family such as YOURSELF.

Do you know how many are killed each year because of backyard breeders and puppymills? If not, Google it, the numbers should astound you.
