How Important Is It To Feed Dogs at the Same Time Each Day?
    Hi, All!

    The title is my question.

I'm house and dog-sitting now. There's three dogs.

Basically, I disrupt their usual schedule for feeding (as well as sleeping!), when I'm here.

They really don't seem to mind the disruption to their feeding schedule.

But, is there a concern with that if it isn't at the same times each day?

They get fed twice a day.

    Thanks!

A few hours is neither here nor there, mine usually get fed around 7pm but some nights I get home late and they don't get fed until 9pm.

The larger the dog the more important feeding times are but an hour or so is never going to matter.

If it has been a very long time between meals... say you were stuck somewhere and completely missed a feeding then I would only feed a small meal, half the size of what they normally get and then just give them the rest a few hours later.

    Mostly to prevent bloat.
Honestly I would have to check with my mom on the reasons behind why the times have to be more exact. I know it has to do with basically the stomach going into 'shock' from too much or a lack of food but I don't know the specifics.
Mom shows and breeds Great Danes so she pretty much knows everything about large breeds but she isn't exactly 'up to date' with message boards which is why she isn't on AMHD herself ;)

If anyone else can answer the specifics please do!
