fleas

my female german shepherd got fleas during her pregnancy and we didnt think we could do anything about it but now all 11 pups have fleas also... what can we do about the puppies are 4 days old today.

Unfortunately, the puppies will have to wait until they are older before they can be treated for fleas.

However, the nursing mother may be treated with a topical, such as Frontline (available at your veterinarian).

I don't advise bathing the puppies at this stage as they cannot yet regulate their body temperature.

Vacuuming thoroughly and often is about all you can do to treat the area, as I am not aware of any premise sprays that are safe for 4 day old puppies.

Use a flea comb or your fingers to try to remove and kill as many as you can.

Keep an eye on their color as a really bad case of fleas can cause anemia quickly in small puppies.
