I don't think you should give your dog ibuprofen. Do you think he/she is in pain? Many years ago I had a wonderful Russian Wolfhound (Borzoi) and he had a procedure done on his knee for arthritis. The vet suggest an 80mg children's aspirin if I thought he was in pain. And he was at first because he was uncomfortable trying to get his legs down but the baby aspirin really helped him get through it.

Mnn, I hope you see this before you give your dog Ibuprofen. NO, please do not do that. Tickle is right on target here. Aspirin is the only thing you can give to your dog that is relatively safe. Since you haven't provided us with any information as to why you want to give your dog a pain reliever, the best thing you can do is to call your vet to find out what he/she thinks about your dogs situation. If you have already given your dog the 80 mg of children's aspirin, your dog should be fine.

Never give a dog Ibuprofen or acetophen. In general, it is best not to give a dog anything not recommended by your vet. Just because somebody else's vet once said to give a dog something in a particular case, doesn't mean it is safe or effective for your dog. You can give a dog up to 5 mg per pound of body weight of aspirin every 8 hours, preferably buffered aspirin. Doing so is best limited to cases where you can't contact a vet at the time. When you do get the dog to the vet, be sure and tell the vet about it, less it confuses things.
