Dog won't eat since we got a new puppy
We have a 3yr old male yorkie, who we recently bought a companion for so he's not alone when we decide to start a family. The new puppy is a 9 week old female mini schnauzer. Baxter (the yorkie) has within the week of getting the puppy, has vomited 8-10 times and has the runs. He also will not eat his food. I had problems when he was a puppy of him having the severe runs when we started changing his food over. We were told at that time, to mix his food with pumpkin purée and it should help settle his stomach and it worked, so we did that again last night. So far, so good for today. But he still won't eat, he would only lick the pumpkin purée off a spoon to at least get it in his system. Does this seem normal when a new puppy comes into the picture? We got a female because yorkie's are a very dominant alpha type dog and we thought the transition would be easier, but I'm very worried that he won't eat... any ideas?

I have news for you, Schnauzers are very dominant alpha type dogs as well, also extremely intellgent.

Your Yorkie will get around to being normal after he gets to know the other dog. He is only a little upset thinking he may not be the top dog any longer. There is no medical reason for him being like this right now, only physcological.

Just hold in there until they settle in with each other. I am sure this is only the case.

    Good luck with your Schnauzie.

Edit: little known fact. Schnauzers, along with other terriers, like the Airedale, were used in both world wars to carry messages between enemy lines. They were known for great courage under fire.

So as soon as we brought our yorkie after day 3 of not eating, drinking and puking and having the runs, to the animal hospital... we ended up walking out of it after 2.5 hrs of not being seen. They took his vitals when we got there, they said he was normal and the doc would be right in, we sat there and waited and waited, and ended up walking out. As soon as we got back to the house, Baxter ran straight to his food and water dish and started consuming. Weirdest thing. LOL! Now, him and the new pup play and wrestle together often and they are always so tuckered out. It's great to see!
