Dog that wont eat

I have an 8 yr old Beagle who has cancer and has refused to eat ANYTHING in almost a week now. I have taken him to the vet for shots and steriods (supposedly to get his appetite going) and nothing has worked. Please help

Well what have you tried to feed him... I think you should try something juicy and meaty.. Like some boiled chicken mixed in with some dried food... Or even some you can pour some gravy over...

I am very sorry to hear your dog is ill. I grew up with a beagle as a kid and they can be such sweet dogs. I would usually answer questions about dogs here but I don't have enough information on this one. Questions like...

Is the cancer being treated or if not, how advanced is it?

How recently were you at the vet for the shots and steroids?

Is your dog drinking water?

With more background, I might understand better. Without it I feel I would do you an injustice guessing too much.

Please post again soon.

Hi,
I, too, am so sorry to read about this.
Our housedog, Molly, passed away in the home this past Jan., at 12 yrs old. The Vet, after blood testing and X-Ray, said she had possible cancer, very low Red Blood Cell count, and an enlarged spleen. They did everything they could with medications, but it was just too far along, and couldn't be stopped. We could not afford blood transfusions.
Molly didn't want to eat anything either, but she did mange to eat a little soft boiled Chicken. I usually don't suggest table food, cause it doesn't have all the minerals and nutrients that dry dog food has. But, in this case, anything I would think would be better than nothing at all.
As your previous answer said, what has the Vet told you? Has he/she suggested anything to feed it? How serious is it?
Please let us know some more information, and in the meantime, I do hope all will be OK.

valinors_sorrow agrees: I know that when pets or people are near death, eating often is naturally suspended.I was reluctant to imply that not knowing more. Good point about make it easy, appropriate food but I might not be concerned nutritionally given the circumstance?

thank you all for your kind words. I took Barney to the vet on Monday for not eating and the vet gave him antibiotics (shot and orally to take home). He still had not eaten by Thursday so I took him back to get a shot of steriod to stimulate his appetite. he FINALLY ate half a greenie last night!!!!!!!!!!. He is drinking water, but my wife is making him drink more through a large eyedropper.
I found him dead when I came home a month ago from work and I gave him CPR for about 5 minutes with compressions unitl he came back. He was then diagnosed with the heart tumor. When he cam e home after that, he was a little reluctant to eat which is weird for a beagle. I got him to eat with some bacon, grilled chicken and hamburger. I have tried all of these again but his eating the greenie last night was great to see. Thank you all for you kind words again.
