I Have A Year And A Half Old Rottweiler Named Sonny , Problem ... He Is Not Sleeping Soundly. He Sleeps With Me In My Bed. I Am A Guy Named Joe, I Want My Doggie To Stop Tossing And Turning And Then I Want Him To Get Some Rest , I Am Tired Like Mad From This Problem . If I Lock Him Out Of My Room He Rams The Door, I Am Suspicious That His Hip Is Bothering Him But He Is Active And Walks O.k. What Can I Do To Insure He Gets Good Sleep ??? Man ,our Health Is At Stake???

If you think his hip is bothering him, take him to the vet. They have better pain killers than are available over the counter. If his hip is bothering him at such a young age, it must be severe. You may want to look at surgery.

If you fall to the temptation of OTC pain killers, avoid the modern ones, nothing but buffered aspirin, 5 mg per pound of dog every 8 hours.

and if his hips check out OK, he may need more excerise. He's a young dog, and may need plenty to stay fit and to sleep well. If he;s napping all day long while you're at work, and then just hangs around evenings, he's not getting enough exercise to need the sleep at night.

I agree, get his hips and knees checked. The only way to definatively diagnose hip displaysia or RACL's is to have him anesthitized and have the doctor palpate his hips and knees and take radiographs. The above advice is also great! Excersize him (if his hips are good and is orthopedically sound) before bed time, wear him out. As far as pain killers go, honestly I dont reccomend you start using them to curb the problem if it exists. The body feels pain for a reason, and it is mean to be a waring sign for an existing problem. If your dog does have a problem, making the pain will only cause your dog to over use his injured area and will make the problem worse. No that I think that pain is something that he should just live with but it isnt a good idea to use them to cure the symptom not the problem.
