my dog hurt his neck

my pit bull hurt his neck and he is in pain, i know that there is not a lot that can be done for bruises and swelling, but i was wondering if it was okay for me to give him asprin to help him with the pain? Or, is there something else anyone can reccomend to me to help him? would an ice pack do any thing for him?
