My dog hasn't eaten for 4 days but drinks a lot of water
My dog hasn't eaten for 4 days but drinks a lot of water. She is 8yrs old and I was able to get her to eat a little bit of boiled chicken yesterday and a few pieces of beef treats the day before but nothing substantial. I can't afford to take her to the vet because my husband is on unemployment right now so any thing I can do for her here at home would be a lot of help. I love my little dog a lot she's pappion and american eskimo.

She may have eaten something and it got lodged in her digestive tract the wrong way.

Has she been voiding and pooping at all?

How is she acting? Does she seem fine other than not eating?

Have there been any changes in the type/brand of food you have been giving her? Has the stress level in the household been higher over the past few days?

She doesn't seem to be her happy self, she doesn't wag her tail and she seems sluggish. No change in dog food or home life. I talked to a vet and they said they would have to run tests and that they would cost a lot of money and we just don't have it. I got some yogurt for her but she just turned her nose up to it. She won't touch the chicken that she ate last night.

I'm worried sick about her. I sit next to her and pet her as much as possible and tell her I love her, it would break my heart to lose her. I just want to make her better.

Would the vet be willing to work with you on payment?

Have you looked in her mouth for any broken or chipped teeth or inflamed gums something logged in her gums or toung? Yikes there is just so much that could be wrong with her. Keep offering water, the minute she refuses to drink you NEED to take her to a vet. Not eating is VERY serious as well. Ask your vet if you could work out a payment plan of some sort like Cat suggested. There really is nothing anyone can do online to help your poor dog, he needs to see a vet.

I got her to eat a little more chicken tonight and she's drinking a lot of water. Every vet I have talked with won't work with us on a payment plan. They all want the money up front. I'm hopeing that since she's eating a little bit more tonight that maybe she's just got a bug like the flu.Thank-you all for your help I appreciate more than you will ever know.

I'm only guessing. My guess is that something is either lodged in the throat or her throat is damaged. So, if anything an X-ray would be a suggestion.

Excessive thirst is a sign of diabetes, but there also would be excessive urination too.

You owe it to your dog not to suffer.

I did, however, find this: How to Give the Heimlich Maneuver to Dogs | eHow.com
