| Dacshund - Paralysis Hi,
I know how common calcification in the spine is in dacshunds. IT HAS BEEN RULED OUT IN THIS CASE.
We're left trying to figure out what may be wrong with our 11 year old dacshund who isn't fairing very well.
He started to show partial paralysis in all extremities about a month ago. He walks a few steps and flops down on the spot. Visited the Vet - Blood work showed a white blood cell count of 30 - (was prepscribed zenequin (didn't help) then clindamycin (didn't help) cosequin (didn't help), clavamox (didn't help). And although calcification in the spine is quite common in this breed, x-rays confirmed his spine is just fine. Also, blood work ruled out leukemia (his eye whites are not yellow, nor are his gums). He was re-xrayed to see if a tumor was visible since that last x-rays...no such luck.
Over $1,000.00 later we have a dog who does not respond to any medication, cannot walk more than 3 or 4 steps at a time, but who is otherwise completely healthy - good appetite, full of kisses but has to be carried from the couch to the water dish, to the backyard.
The Vet now suggests it could be a cancerous tumor or tissue that isn't showing up on the x-rays and suggests having an MRI done. That's a lot of money that we just can't afford.
HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS? WHAT WAS THE OUTCOME?
Thanking you in advance for your feedback!
