    Canine eye discharge
I have a vet appt set for next week, but I wanted to get some other opinions until then. My dog has a discharge from his eyes, but I read up on it, and it's not colored, his eyes aren't red or swollen, or anything like that. It's just a kind of watery discharge. I wipe it away with a moist cloth, and in about an hour or two it returns. My husband and I were in italy for 3 years and just got back about a month ago. While he was in italy, however, he wasn't in contact with other dogs, and he's up to date on all his shots and has been since he was born. Any thoughts on what it could be? Does it sound serious enough for a vet visit? I'm going to take him either way, but it's not until next week so...

Anon, it is too bad you can't get him into an appointment this week. Anytime there is anything out of the ordinary happening, you are better off getting a vet to examine him as soon as possible. It sounds like he has gotten something in his eye that isn't getting expelled. Depending on what it is, it could create an infection and/or scratch his cornea if it is left in there too long. Isn't there any way you can get him in to see a vet by Friday?

I worked at a vet clinic a long time ago... we referred an oral surgery for a dog that had overactive tear ducts. Like you said, there was no coloration or infection, but the constant moisture was causing irritation around the eyes, so they had to fix it.
