Bathing a Shih Tzu

I just got a puppy and she is three months old. I bought all sorts of book telling me how to raise her. I was just wondering how many baths I suppose to give my puppy. The books were telling I should give the puppy at least one a week a bath. Also, another told me I should give the the puppy every two-weeks a bath. So, I am just wondering how many bath should I give the puppy.

I dont agree with a bath every week; you can dry out her coat and skin and then that would create problems for her. How dirty is she going to get ? You can wipe her face off after she eats and if she goes potty outside you have to make sure her bum is clean. Puppies dont need a lot of baths but what you could do is play bath her with plain water outside when it is warm, like in a tub with lukewarm water if you are concerned about her hygeine. Dogs enjoy playing in water same as kids do !! If in doubt, ask your vet or just use common sense.

I am a dog groomer and groom many puppies. I always tell my clients that a bath a week is too much. It dries out their skin and there is no need for it. If the puppy gets yucky you can always spot clean it with a puppy safe waterless bath. You can find it at local per stores.
