Hi...I have an adopted Pointer (had him less than 2 weeks) who will not go outside without a struggle. He was trained to an invisible fence last year when he was at the rescue, but was in a chain like fenced yard since December in a foster home. He has received no correction, has only heard the beep a handful of times. I have tried everything including taking the collar off and reintroducing and it is getting worse. I am not able to have a traditional fence in my yard. Thanks in advance.

Try luring him out with treats and then loving on him outside, ear scratches, butt rubs, belly rubs, whatever he enjoys. Keep up a happy patter using his name and good dog a lot.

Can you get him in the car and take him elsewhere and walk?

How old is he? The older he is, the longer it may take.

He is about 17 months (Vet agrees with this assessment). Have tried treats, etc. I even sit in the grass hoping he will come to me ("good boy", cheerful, etc)...only comes into the yard if dragged. He will walk around the neighborhood once he realizes he does not have to go into the yard. If left outside (advice from foster mom), he wedges himself against the patio door and stays on that step until I let him back in. Rescue says he did fine on the fence there, but he also had a pack of dogs to chum around with.

You might try having another dog come for a visit. One of his old chums would be great if available. For a strange dog, a female might be better. I don't think I would leave him plastered against the door by himself.
