I just needed to share my excitement. we used to not brush our dog's teeth too often but about 2 months ago i began to wonder just how often it is recommended and found out..everyday. So after reading why, and everything, that's what we started to do.
and i am so proud of my dog. he hates when we touch his mouth, but he doesn't snap or bite. he'll just scoot back a little trying to get away. so the first couple weeks it took both my husband and i to brush his teeth. after that, it only takes one and he endures it so well. i thought that maybe since he was older he wouldn't adhere too well but he really surprised me. So i just wanted to share how proud i am of my dog and also let all who don't know, you should brush your dog's teeth everyday so they don't develop periodontal disease. it's not fun for you or your dog, and it's just easier to take preventative measures to avoid it.

I'm so happy you wrote this so everyone that didn't even think about this, now knows. It's very important for your dogs overall health, just as it is for humans. It also greatly reduces the risk of heart disease in dogs, as well as many other health issues and diseases.
It's also important to know that you can buy specially designed toothbrushes for dogs, as well as toothpaste that has flavourings, such as liver. If your dog likes the toothpaste, it is much easier to brush their teeth, and that doggy breath doesn't smell as bad, and then you can get more puppy kisses!

Oh yeah, I'll take a doggy kiss anytime! Niki get's me laughing so hard because she's got this thing that she does. I know it sounds a little...uhmmm...strange, lol. But if I lay down for a nap and she wants to play instead, she will come up to me and stick her tongue in my ear and start licking until she can get me to wake up and start laughing. She knows she can get me to giggle that way, and once I do, she runs and gets her ball or toy so we can play. Sneaky little girl she is!!
I'm the same Shaz, I hate to say it, but I've never ever brushed my dogs teeth. The oldest, Indy, is almost 14 has never lost a tooth or had a cavity, has the teeth of a puppy. The vet always comments on his teeth when we take him in. Same with Jasper.
Chewy's still a puppy, but so far, beautiful teeth.
I've been told by the vet that it's because of their diet, we only feed them dry dog food, wet is a special treat. It makes sense to me, our poodle only got wet dog food, had one tooth left when he died.
