i have a 4 yr old maltese, she is house broken. or should i say "was"
she had puppies once about two years ago. she is now in heat.

we have new hardwood floors and she has never had problems before. she always used a a pee pee pad we provide on the balcony or in the kitchen.

now all of a sudden she is peeing on the hardwood floors. she drinks alot more water too which makes her go more often. she would pee on the pee pee pad a few times and then a few times on the hard wood floor.

please help!

There are quite a few reason why she may be doing this, one of them being a urinary tract infection as danielnoahmommy suggested.

One thing to watch out for is that if you let her outside and she wees on the grass they are more prone to picking up infections while they are in heat, same as if they go inside and you use strong cleaners on your floor.

Even female dogs can mark their territory just like males do, she may well be "spreading her scent" around because she is in heat.

There are also problems like diebetes with the excess water consumption to consider as well as just being in heat as thrown her out.

Best to get her checked out by a vet to rule out any major problems before we move onto behavioral.
